Cuisine: American

Ingredients

For the Croutons:
  • 2 slices sourdough bread (about 2 cups, cubed)
  • 2 slices pumpernickel bread (about 2 cups, cubed)
  • 2 slices wheat bread (about 2 cups, cubed)
  • 4 tablespoons butter (melted)
  • 2 teaspoons dried parsley
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Equipment

  • Air Fryer
  • Mixing bowl
  • Spatula or Wooden Spoon
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Cutting board and knife

Method

Step-by-Step Instructions:
  1. Start by cubing your bread slices into bite-sized pieces. Aim for uniform cubes to ensure they cook evenly. You should have about 6 cups of bread cubes total from the three types of bread.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the melted butter, dried parsley, garlic powder, and salt. Whisk them together until everything is well blended.
  3. Add the cubed bread to the bowl with the seasoning mixture. Use a spatula or your hands to toss the bread until all pieces are well coated in the buttery herb mixture.
  4. Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C). Once preheated, place the seasoned bread cubes in a single layer in the air fryer basket. You may need to do this in batches if your air fryer isn’t large enough.
  5. Air fry the croutons for about 8-10 minutes. Shake the basket halfway through to promote even cooking. Keep an eye on them towards the end to ensure they don’t get too dark.
  6. Once they are golden brown and crispy, remove the croutons from the air fryer and let them cool for a few minutes. They will continue to crisp up as they cool. Now, they are ready to be added to your favorite dishes!

Notes

  • Use fresh bread for the best texture and flavor.
  • Store croutons in an airtight container at room temperature for up to one week.
  • To re-crisp, warm them in the air fryer at 350°F (175°C).
