Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 3 tablespoons packed brown sugar
  • 3 tablespoons heavy whipping cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3 cups powdered sugar

Equipment

  • Mixing bowl
  • Electric mixer
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Spatula
  • Storage Container

Method

  1. In a mixing bowl, add the softened unsalted butter. Using your electric mixer, beat the butter on medium speed until it becomes creamy and smooth, about 2-3 minutes.
  2. Add the packed brown sugar to the bowl and continue mixing on medium speed until fluffy, about another 2 minutes.
  3. Pour in the heavy whipping cream and vanilla extract. Beat on low speed until combined, then increase to medium speed and mix for an additional minute.
  4. Gradually add the powdered sugar and salt. Start mixing on low speed to avoid a sugar cloud, then increase to medium speed and mix until smooth and fluffy, about 3-5 minutes.
  5. If the frosting is too thick, add a splash more cream to reach your desired consistency.
  6. Taste your frosting and adjust the flavor as needed by adding more vanilla or a pinch of salt.

Notes

  • Store leftover frosting in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week.
  • Let frosting come to room temperature before using and re-whip if necessary.
  • If the frosting becomes too firm, gently warm it in the microwave for a few seconds.
