Ingredients

  • 1.5 cups sugar
  • 0.75 cup butter melted (1 ½ sticks)
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1.25 cups all-purpose flour
  • 0.75 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon baking soda
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt

Equipment

  • Mixing bowl
  • Whisk
  • Spatula
  • Baking pan
  • Parchment paper
  • Oven

Method

Method
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line your 9x9-inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving some overhang on the sides for easy removal later.
  2. In a medium mixing bowl, combine the melted butter, sugar, and water. Whisk until well combined. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract until blended.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add this dry mixture to the wet ingredients, folding gently with a spatula until just combined. Avoid overmixing to keep the brownies chewy.
  4. Pour the brownie batter into the prepared baking pan, smoothing the top with your spatula. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes. The brownies are done when a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs (not wet batter).
  5. Once baked, remove the brownies from the oven and let them cool in the pan for about 10 minutes. Then, use the parchment overhang to lift them out and place them on a wire rack to cool completely. Cut into squares and enjoy!

Notes

  • Don't overmix the batter to keep it chewy.
  • Measure flour accurately using the spoon-and-level method.
  • Allow brownies to cool completely before cutting.
