Ingredients

For the Chicken:
  • 2 pieces chicken breasts cut into halves lengthwise horizontally
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt divided
  • 1 teaspoon ground pepper divided
  • 2 pieces eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • Oil for frying
For the Sauce:
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/4 cup BBQ sauce
  • 2 tablespoons yellow mustard
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
For Assembling:
  • 4 pieces hamburger buns toasted
  • 12-15 pieces dill pickle chips

Equipment

  • Large skillet or deep fryer
  • Mixing bowls
  • Meat mallet or rolling pin
  • Whisk
  • Tongs
  • Paper towels
  • Spatula

Method

Preparation Steps:
  1. Start by cutting the chicken breasts in half lengthwise. This will create thinner pieces that cook evenly. If desired, you can pound them slightly to ensure they are uniform in thickness.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, paprika, garlic powder, 1/2 teaspoon of salt, and 1/2 teaspoon of pepper. Whisk the ingredients together until well blended.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together the eggs and milk until fully combined. This will be your egg wash that helps the breading stick to the chicken.
  4. First, dip each piece of chicken into the egg wash, allowing any excess to drip off. Then, dredge it in the seasoned flour mixture, pressing lightly to ensure a good coating. Set the breaded chicken on a plate.
  5. In a large skillet or deep fryer, heat about 1 inch of oil over medium-high heat. You can test if the oil is hot enough by dropping a small amount of flour into the oil; if it sizzles, you’re ready to fry.
  6. Carefully add the breaded chicken pieces to the hot oil, cooking in batches if necessary to avoid overcrowding. Fry for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and cooked through. Use a meat thermometer to ensure the internal temperature reaches 165°F.
  7. Once cooked, transfer the chicken to a plate lined with paper towels to drain any excess oil.
  8. In a bowl, combine the mayonnaise, BBQ sauce, yellow mustard, honey, and lemon juice. Mix until smooth and well combined.
  9. Toast the hamburger buns lightly. Spread a generous amount of the sauce on each bun, then place a piece of crispy chicken on top. Add dill pickle chips to your liking and finish with the top half of the bun.
  10. Your homemade Chick-fil-A Crispy Chicken Sandwiches are ready to be served! Pair them with your favorite side dishes for a complete meal.
