Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour spooned and leveled
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt
  • ¾ cup unsalted butter (1 ½ sticks), melted and cooled slightly
  • ¾ cup packed brown sugar
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 large egg yolk
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 heaping cup dark chocolate chips

Equipment

  • Baking sheet
  • Parchment paper
  • Mixing bowls
  • Whisk
  • Rubber spatula
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Cookie scoop

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). This ensures your cookies bake evenly and achieve that ideal texture.
  2. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. This will help prevent the cookies from sticking and make cleanup a breeze.
  3. In a medium bowl, whisk together the 2 cups of all-purpose flour, 1 teaspoon of baking soda, and 1 teaspoon of sea salt. Set aside.
  4. In a large bowl, mix the ¾ cup of melted and slightly cooled unsalted butter, ¾ cup of packed brown sugar, and ½ cup of granulated sugar until well combined.
  5. Add the 1 large egg, 1 large egg yolk, and 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract to the butter and sugar mixture. Mix until smooth and creamy.
  6. Gradually add the dry ingredient mixture to the wet ingredients, stirring gently until just combined.
  7. Using a rubber spatula, fold in the heaping cup of dark chocolate chips until evenly distributed throughout the dough.
  8. Using a cookie scoop or tablespoon, drop rounded balls of dough onto the prepared baking sheet, leaving space between each cookie for spreading. Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.
  9. Remove the cookies from the oven and let them cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • Make sure your butter is melted but cool to the touch when mixed with the sugars.
  • Chilling the dough for 30 minutes can enhance flavors and texture.
  • Try using brown butter for a nutty flavor.
