Ingredients

  • 2 cups packed light brown sugar adds moisture and a deep caramel flavor
  • 1 cup unsalted butter melted
  • 2 eggs binds ingredients together
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract adds a warm, aromatic flavor
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour sifted
  • 1 teaspoon salt enhances sweetness
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder helps bars rise slightly
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda ensures a soft and chewy texture
  • 1 cup semisweet or milk chocolate chips for a delightful chocolatey bite

Equipment

  • Mixing bowls
  • Whisk
  • Spatula
  • Baking pan (9x13 inch)
  • Parchment paper
  • Oven

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Line a 9x13 inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving some overhang on the sides.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, combine the melted butter and packed light brown sugar. Whisk together until smooth. Add the eggs and vanilla extract, mixing until fully incorporated.
  4. In another bowl, whisk together the sifted all-purpose flour, salt, baking powder, and baking soda.
  5. Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet mixture. Use a spatula to fold the ingredients until just combined.
  6. Gently fold in the chocolate chips, ensuring they are evenly distributed throughout the batter.
  7. Pour the cookie dough into the prepared baking pan, spreading it out evenly. Bake for about 25-30 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and the center is set.
  8. Allow the cookie bars to cool in the pan for about 10-15 minutes, then lift them out using the parchment paper and let them cool completely before cutting into squares.

Notes

  • Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days.
  • Freeze the bars wrapped in plastic wrap and then foil for up to 3 months.
  • Thaw overnight in the fridge when ready to enjoy again.
