For the Dip:
  • 8 oz cream cheese room temperature
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/4 cup sour cream
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1/2 cup chopped green onion
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons Old Bay seasoning
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 cup freshly shredded cheddar cheese divided
  • 1 teaspoon hot sauce or more, to taste
  • 1 pound fresh jumbo lump crab meat
For Serving:
  • Sourdough bread for serving
  • Crackers for serving
  • Tortilla chips for serving
  • Chopped cold veggies for serving

Equipment

  • Mixing bowl
  • Spatula
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Oven-safe dish

Method

Preparation Steps:
  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the room temperature cream cheese, mayonnaise, and sour cream. Mix until the mixture is smooth and creamy, ensuring there are no lumps.
  2. Add in the minced garlic, chopped green onions, Old Bay seasoning, salt, Worcestershire sauce, and lemon juice. Stir until everything is evenly incorporated.
  3. Fold in 3/4 cup of the shredded cheddar cheese and the hot sauce, adjusting the amount to suit your taste preferences.
  4. Gently fold in the fresh jumbo lump crab meat, taking care not to break apart the delicate lumps.
  5. If you want a warm dip, transfer the mixture to an oven-safe dish. Top with the remaining 1/4 cup of shredded cheddar cheese. Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for about 20-25 minutes, or until bubbly and golden on top.
  6. If you prefer it cold, simply chill in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes before serving.
  7. Serve your Crab Dip warm or chilled, alongside a spread of sourdough bread, crackers, tortilla chips, or chopped cold veggies.

Notes

  • For the best flavor, choose high-quality crab meat.
  • Experiment with different types of cheese, like pepper jack for a spicy kick.
  • Prepare the dip a day in advance for party planning.
