Ingredients

For the Taco Meat:
  • 4 pounds ground chuck
  • 1 cup water
  • 16 ounces taco sauce
  • 6 tablespoons taco seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon granulated sugar optional

Equipment

  • Crockpot
  • Meat thermometer
  • Large mixing spoon
  • Measuring cups and spoons

Method

Instructions:
  1. Step 1: Prepare the Ingredients - Start by gathering all your ingredients. It’s always best to have everything ready before you start cooking.
  2. Step 2: Brown the Ground Chuck - In a large skillet, brown the ground chuck over medium heat until it’s fully cooked. This step adds depth of flavor to the meat. Once browned, drain any excess fat.
  3. Step 3: Combine in the Crockpot - Transfer the browned meat to your crockpot. Add the cup of water, taco sauce, taco seasoning, and granulated sugar (if using). Stir well to combine.
  4. Step 4: Slow Cook - Cover the crockpot and set it on low for 6 to 8 hours or on high for 3 to 4 hours. The longer you cook, the more tender the meat will become.
  5. Step 5: Shred and Serve - Once cooked, use a fork to shred the meat directly in the crockpot. Stir to coat the meat in the sauce, and it’s ready to serve!

Notes

  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
  • Freeze portions for up to 3 months for easy meal prep.
