Ingredients

  • 6 large eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt plus more to taste
  • 1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil plus more for the pie dish
  • 2 shallots thinly sliced (about 1 cup)
  • 3 cups small broccoli florets (about 6 ounces)
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup grated Gruyere cheese (about 4 ounces)
  • 1 tablespoon fresh thyme leaves or chopped fresh chives

Equipment

  • Mixing bowls
  • Whisk
  • Pie dish or baking dish
  • Knife and cutting board
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Skillet

Method

  1. Step 1: Preheat Your Oven. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) to ensure even baking.
  2. Step 2: Sauté the Vegetables. Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Sauté shallots for about 3 minutes until translucent, then add broccoli and 1 cup of water. Cook for another 4–5 minutes until broccoli is tender. Drain excess water and set aside.
  3. Step 3: Whisk the Egg Mixture. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, salt, and pepper until well combined.
  4. Step 4: Combine Ingredients. Fold the sautéed vegetables into the egg mixture, adding cheese and thyme or chives. Stir gently to combine.
  5. Step 5: Prepare the Pie Dish. Lightly grease your pie dish with olive oil to prevent sticking.
  6. Step 6: Bake the Quiche. Pour the mixture into the prepared dish and bake for 30–35 minutes, until set and lightly golden.
  7. Step 7: Cool and Serve. Allow the quiche to cool for a few minutes before slicing. Serve warm or refrigerate for later.
