Ingredients

  • 15 oz canned chickpeas rinsed and drained
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/3 cup honey, agave syrup, or maple syrup
  • 1/4 cup almond butter
  • 2-4 tablespoons milk of choice dairy or nondairy
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Chopped chocolate or mini chocolate chips for topping (optional, sweetened or unsweetened)
  • Graham crackers, cookies, strawberries, apple slices, etc. for serving

Equipment

  • Food processor
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Spatula
  • Serving bowls

Method

  1. Gather all your ingredients and have them ready to go. Rinse and drain the canned chickpeas thoroughly to remove any excess sodium.
  2. In a food processor, combine the rinsed chickpeas, unsweetened cocoa powder, honey (or agave/maple syrup), almond butter, and vanilla extract.
  3. Begin blending the mixture while slowly adding 2 tablespoons of your chosen milk. Blend until the mixture is smooth and creamy. If the hummus is too thick, gradually add more milk until you reach your desired consistency.
  4. Taste your Dark Chocolate Hummus and adjust the sweetness if necessary. If you prefer it sweeter, add a little more honey or syrup, and blend again.
  5. Once you achieve the perfect taste and texture, transfer the hummus to a serving bowl. Top it with chopped chocolate or mini chocolate chips for an extra touch of indulgence.
  6. Pair your Dark Chocolate Hummus with graham crackers, cookies, fresh strawberries, or apple slices. The possibilities are endless!

Notes

  • Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
