Instructions:
- In a mixing bowl, combine the warm water and sugar. Sprinkle the yeast on top and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
- Once the yeast is frothy, add the salt and gradually incorporate the flour, one cup at a time. Use a wooden spoon or spatula to combine until a dough begins to form.
- Transfer the dough onto a floured surface. Knead the dough for about 5-7 minutes, adding more flour as necessary, until it becomes smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm spot for about 1 hour or until it has doubled in size.
- After the dough has risen, punch it down to release the air. Divide it into equal pieces, about 12-16, and roll each piece into a long rope shape. Place them on a greased baking sheet, spaced apart.
- Cover the shaped breadsticks with the kitchen towel and let them rise for another 20-30 minutes.
- While the breadsticks are rising, preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Once the breadsticks have risen, melt some butter and brush it over the tops. Sprinkle with kosher salt and garlic powder for added flavor.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown.
- Remove the breadsticks from the oven and let them cool slightly. Serve warm and enjoy!
Notes
- Ensure your water is warm, not hot, to avoid killing the yeast.
- Let the dough rise in a warm environment for best results.
- Don’t skip the second rise; it enhances the texture and flavor.
- Experiment with toppings like cheese or herbs for variety.
