Ingredients

For the Beef:
  • 1 lb lean ground beef
For the Sauce:
  • 2 tsp minced ginger
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 cup low sodium soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 3 tbsp hoisin sauce
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1/4 tsp red pepper flakes
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 4 green onions, cut into 2-inch pieces

Equipment

  • Skillet or large frying pan
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Wooden spoon or spatula
  • Knife and cutting board

Method

Cooking Steps:
  1. In a large skillet over medium-high heat, add the lean ground beef. Cook, breaking it apart with a wooden spoon, until it’s browned and no longer pink, about 5-7 minutes. Drain any excess fat if needed.
  2. Once the beef is browned, add the minced ginger and garlic to the skillet. Stir them into the beef and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the low sodium soy sauce, brown sugar, hoisin sauce, water, cornstarch, red pepper flakes, and black pepper until smooth.
  4. Pour the sauce over the beef mixture in the skillet. Stir well to combine, ensuring the beef is evenly coated with the sauce. Bring the mixture to a simmer.
  5. Allow the sauce to simmer for about 3-5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it thickens. If the sauce gets too thick, add a splash of water to reach your desired consistency.
  6. Toss in the cut green onions and stir to combine. Cook for another 1-2 minutes until the green onions are tender but still vibrant.
  7. Remove from heat and serve the Easy Mongolian Ground Beef over steamed rice or noodles. Enjoy the burst of flavors in every bite!

Notes

  • For extra flavor, try adding more vegetables like snap peas or bell peppers.
  • Adjust the sweetness by reducing brown sugar to your taste.
  • This recipe can be made ahead of time; just reheat before serving.
