Ingredients

For the Marinade:
  • 2 tsp BBQ rub Adds a smoky depth
  • 1 tbsp fresh cilantro chopped
  • ½ cup teriyaki sauce or use ½ cup soy sauce + 1 tbsp brown sugar for a homemade touch
  • 2 tbsp oil sesame oil or avocado oil works best
  • 1 tsp fresh ginger chopped
  • 1 tbsp sesame seeds (optional)

Equipment

  • Mixing bowl
  • Whisk or spoon
  • Resealable plastic bag or shallow dish
  • Meat thermometer

Method

Instructions
  1. Start by gathering all the ingredients. In a mixing bowl, combine the teriyaki sauce (or the soy sauce and brown sugar mixture), BBQ rub, fresh cilantro, sesame oil, fresh ginger, and sesame seeds if you’re using them. Whisk until well combined and the sugar is dissolved.
  2. Place your steak in a resealable plastic bag or a shallow dish. Pour the marinade over the steak, ensuring it’s well coated. Seal the bag or cover the dish tightly.
  3. Allow the steak to marinate in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes, but ideally for 2-4 hours. For best results, marinate overnight.
  4. When you’re ready to cook, remove the steak from the marinade and let it sit at room temperature for about 15-20 minutes. Grill, broil, or pan-sear your steak to your desired level of doneness.
  5. Once your steak is cooked, let it rest for a few minutes before slicing. This allows the juices to redistribute throughout the meat. Slice against the grain, serve with your favorite sides, and enjoy!

Notes

  • Store leftover marinade in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week.
  • Leftover marinated steak can be kept in the refrigerator for up to 3 days before cooking.
  • Ensure to rest the steak after cooking for the best texture.
