Ingredients

  • 1/2 medium white onion diced
  • 1 lb. lean ground beef
  • 8 oz. tomato sauce
  • 3 tbsp homemade taco seasoning or store-bought
  • 8 medium flour or corn tortillas
  • 1 cup lettuce shredded
  • 1 cup shredded taco cheese blend
  • 1 large Roma tomato diced
  • 4 tbsp sour cream
  • Hot sauce (to taste)

Equipment

  • Skillet
  • Spatula
  • Cutting Board
  • Knife
  • Serving platters

Method

  1. In a large skillet, heat a drizzle of oil over medium heat. Add the diced onion and sauté for about 3-4 minutes until they become translucent and fragrant.
  2. Increase the heat to medium-high and add the ground beef to the skillet. Use a spatula to break up the beef into small pieces. Cook until browned and no longer pink, about 6-8 minutes.
  3. Once the beef is cooked, drain any excess fat. Stir in the taco seasoning and tomato sauce, mixing well to combine. Allow it to simmer for 5 minutes, letting the flavors meld together.
  4. While the beef mixture is simmering, warm the tortillas in a separate pan or microwave. If using a skillet, heat them for about 30 seconds on each side until they are soft and pliable.
  5. To build your tacos, place a generous scoop of the beef mixture in the center of each tortilla. Top with shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, shredded cheese, a dollop of sour cream, and a drizzle of hot sauce.
  6. Serve your tacos immediately with lime wedges and extra toppings on the side for guests to customize their own. Enjoy the burst of flavors in every bite!

Notes

  • Prep the beef mixture a day in advance and store in an airtight container.
  • Warm tortillas ensure soft and enjoyable tacos.
  • Customize toppings based on seasonal ingredients.
