Ingredients

  • 1 cup filtered water
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1-2 pieces vanilla beans or 2 tablespoons of pure vanilla extract as an alternative

Equipment

  • Small saucepan
  • Measuring cups
  • Sharp Knife
  • Glass Jar or Bottle
  • Whisk or spoon

Method

  1. Begin by taking your vanilla beans and slicing them lengthwise with a sharp knife. This will help release their aromatic seeds and infuse your syrup with maximum flavor.
  2. In a small saucepan, combine the filtered water, granulated sugar, and brown sugar. Add the split vanilla beans (and the seeds if you wish) to the mixture.
  3. Place the saucepan over medium heat. Stir the mixture until the sugars dissolve completely and the syrup begins to simmer. Avoid boiling the syrup, as this can alter the flavor.
  4. Once the mixture reaches a simmer, reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for about 5-10 minutes. This will allow the flavors to meld beautifully.
  5. After simmering, remove the saucepan from the heat. Let the syrup cool for a few minutes. Once cooled, strain the syrup into a glass jar or bottle, discarding the vanilla beans.
  6. Seal your jar or bottle and store it in the refrigerator. Your homemade vanilla syrup will keep for about 2-3 weeks, ready to enhance any beverage you desire!

Notes

  • Always store your syrup in the refrigerator to prolong its shelf life.
  • Ensure your storage container is clean and sanitized to avoid contamination.
  • Label your jar with the date you made the syrup to keep track of freshness.
