Ingredients

  • 1 cup milk (any kind)
  • 1 tablespoon honey or maple syrup
  • 1 tablespoon peanut butter or other nut butter (optional)
  • 1 cup uncooked steel cut oats (quick-cooking can be used)
  • ½ teaspoon kosher salt
  • Chia seeds, flaxseeds, or hemp seeds (for added nutrition)
  • Protein powder (optional)
  • Ground cinnamon (for flavor)
  • Citrus zest (like orange zest)
  • Dried fruit (like cranberries, raisins, or dates)
  • Fresh or frozen fruit (like berries or bananas)
  • Toasted nuts (like almonds, walnuts, or pecans)
  • Extra honey or maple syrup (for sweetness)

Equipment

  • Mixing bowl
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Storage Container
  • Spoon

Method

  1. Start by taking a medium mixing bowl and adding 1 cup of your preferred milk. Mix in 1 tablespoon of honey or maple syrup, along with 1 tablespoon of peanut butter if desired.
  2. Next, stir in 1 cup of uncooked steel cut oats and ½ teaspoon of kosher salt. If you're adding seeds or protein powder, toss them in now.
  3. Mix all the ingredients until thoroughly combined. Transfer the mixture into a storage container and cover tightly.
  4. Place the container in the refrigerator and let it sit overnight. This allows the oats to absorb the liquid and soften.
  5. In the morning, give the oats a good stir and add a splash of milk if desired. Top with your favorite fresh or dried fruits, nuts, and an extra drizzle of honey or maple syrup.

Notes

  • Store in the fridge for up to 5 days for freshness.
