Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup Parmesan cheese grated for that perfect cheesy crust
  • 1/4 cup butter softened to create a creamy mixture
  • 3 tablespoons mayonnaise helps keep the fish moist
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice adds brightness and acidity
  • 1/4 teaspoon dried basil for a hint of herbal flavor
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper to season the mixture
  • 1/8 teaspoon onion powder adds depth to the flavor
  • 1/8 teaspoon celery salt for a savory touch
  • 2 pounds tilapia fillets the star of the show!

Equipment

  • Oven-safe baking dish
  • Mixing bowl
  • Spatula
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Whisk

Method

  1. Start by preheating your oven to 400°F (200°C). This ensures that your tilapia will cook evenly and the topping will get nice and crispy.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the softened butter, mayonnaise, fresh lemon juice, dried basil, ground black pepper, onion powder, celery salt, and grated Parmesan cheese. Mix until well combined. The mixture should be creamy and spreadable.
  3. Place the tilapia fillets in a single layer in your prepared baking dish. If the fillets are frozen, make sure they are completely thawed and patted dry with paper towels to ensure the topping adheres well.
  4. Using a spatula, evenly spread the Parmesan mixture over the top of each fillet. Make sure to cover them well for that delicious, cheesy crust.
  5. Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the fish flakes easily with a fork and the topping is golden brown. The exact time may vary depending on the thickness of your fillets.
  6. Once baked, remove the dish from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes. Serve your Parmesan Tilapia with a side of steamed vegetables, rice, or a fresh salad for a complete meal.

Notes

  • Feel free to enhance the flavor with additional spices like paprika or garlic powder.
  • This recipe works well with other mild white fish like cod or haddock.
  • For a vegetarian version, substitute the fish with thick slices of eggplant or zucchini.
