Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons Old Bay seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried parsley
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground cayenne pepper optional
  • 1 cup shredded sharp Cheddar cheese
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter melted (for brushing)
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder (for brushing)
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt (for brushing)
  • 2 tablespoons finely chopped fresh parsley

Equipment

  • Mixing bowls
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Whisk
  • Baking sheet
  • Parchment paper
  • Silicone spatula
  • Oven mitts

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, sugar, salt, Old Bay seasoning, garlic powder, dried parsley, and cayenne pepper (if using).
  4. In a separate bowl, mix the melted butter and buttermilk. Slowly pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and gently fold together with a silicone spatula until just combined.
  5. Fold in the shredded sharp cheddar cheese until evenly distributed throughout the dough.
  6. Using a large spoon or ice cream scoop, drop heaping tablespoons of dough onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them a couple of inches apart.
  7. Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the biscuits are golden brown on top.
  8. While the biscuits are baking, combine the melted butter, garlic powder, and salt in a small bowl.
  9. Once the biscuits are out of the oven, brush the tops generously with the garlic butter mixture.
  10. Sprinkle the freshly chopped parsley over the biscuits and serve warm.

Notes

  • Use freshly grated cheddar cheese for better melting.
  • Add more cayenne pepper for a spicier biscuit if desired.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
