  • 1 tablespoon low sodium soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon corn starch
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
For the Sauce:
  • 3 tablespoons low sodium soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons oyster sauce
  • 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
  • 1 tablespoon chili garlic sauce
  • 1 teaspoon dark soy sauce (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
For the Noodles and Vegetables:
  • 12 ounces flat noodles (rice or wheat noodles)
  • 3 tablespoons vegetable oil (divided)
  • 3 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 tablespoon ginger (minced)
  • 2 medium bell peppers (cut into 1-inch pieces)
  • Sesame seeds (for garnish, optional)

Equipment

  • Wok or large skillet
  • Sharp Knife
  • Cutting Board
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Spatula or tongs

Method

Preparation Steps:
  1. In a bowl, combine the sliced top sirloin steak with 1 tablespoon of low sodium soy sauce, 1 tablespoon of corn starch, 1 teaspoon of sesame oil, and 1 teaspoon of baking soda (if using). Mix well and let it marinate for at least 15 minutes.
  2. In another bowl, whisk together 3 tablespoons of low sodium soy sauce, 2 tablespoons of oyster sauce, 1 tablespoon of hoisin sauce, 1 tablespoon of chili garlic sauce, 1 teaspoon of dark soy sauce (if using), and 1 teaspoon of sugar. Set this sauce aside.
  3. Prepare the flat noodles according to the package instructions, then drain and set aside, drizzling with a little sesame oil to prevent sticking.
  4. Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a wok or large skillet over high heat. Add the marinated beef in a single layer and sear for about 2-3 minutes until browned. Remove the beef and set aside.
  5. In the same wok or skillet, add another tablespoon of vegetable oil. Sauté the minced garlic and ginger until fragrant, about 30 seconds. Add the sliced red chili and bell peppers, cooking for an additional 3-4 minutes until slightly softened but still crisp.
  6. Return the cooked beef to the skillet and pour the sauce over the mixture. Toss until well coated and heated through for another 2-3 minutes.
  7. Gently fold in the cooked flat noodles, ensuring they are well mixed with the beef and vegetables. Drizzle with the remaining tablespoon of sesame oil.
  8. Plate the Spicy Beef Noodles and garnish with sliced green onions and sesame seeds, if desired. Serve hot!

Notes

  • Marinate the beef for maximum flavor and tenderness.
  • Adjust the chili garlic sauce based on your heat preference.
  • Don't skip garnishing with green onions and sesame seeds for added flavor and presentation.
