Ingredients

  • 1 pound lean ground turkey
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • to taste Kosher or sea salt
  • 1/2 cup sun-dried tomatoes, diced (if using 99% lean turkey breasts, recommend using sun-dried tomatoes packed in olive oil)
  • 1/2 cup low-fat feta cheese
  • 2 tablespoons chives or green onions, diced

Equipment

  • Mixing bowl
  • Grill or skillet
  • Spatula
  • Meat thermometer

Method

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine 1 pound of lean ground turkey, 1/2 teaspoon of black pepper, and kosher or sea salt to taste. Stir until just combined to avoid overworking the meat.
  2. Gently fold in 1/2 cup of diced sun-dried tomatoes, 1/2 cup of low-fat feta cheese, and 2 tablespoons of diced chives or green onions. Mix until the ingredients are evenly distributed throughout the turkey.
  3. Divide the mixture into four equal portions and shape them into patties, about ¾ inch thick. Make a small indentation in the center of each patty to help them cook evenly.
  4. Preheat your grill or skillet over medium heat. If using a skillet, consider adding a little olive oil to prevent sticking.
  5. Place the patties on the grill or in the skillet. Cook for about 5-7 minutes on each side or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F.
  6. Once cooked, remove the patties and let them rest for a few minutes. Serve on whole-grain buns with your favorite toppings such as lettuce, tomato, or avocado.

Notes

  • Don’t overmix the turkey; this can lead to tough burgers.
  • Let the patties rest before grilling; this helps them retain moisture.
  • Experiment with different toppings and sauces to customize the burgers to your taste.
